Effect: A card is chosen by a spectator and inserted back into the deck. You explain that you will demonstrate the fastest trick in the world. Place the cards behind your back for a split second. When you bring them to the front again, the magician spreads the cards out. One card is seen reversed somewhere in the center. It is the spectator’s selected card.
Secret: Before starting the trick, secretly reverse the bottom card face up under the face down deck. Spread the deck out in a fan, asking the spectator to select one of the cards. Make sure the spectator does not see that the bottom card is reversed.
1. While the selected card is shown around and remembered by the spectator, secretly turn the deck upside down. To make this easier, you could explain that you will turn your back so that you cannot see the selected card.
2. When your back is turned, reverse the whole deck. Because the bottom card was reversed at the beginning, the deck will still appear to be face down.
3. Making sure the deck is perfectly squared, ask the spectator to return his card to the deck, somewhere in the middle. Announce that you will perform the world’s fastest card trick.
4. Put the cards behind your back and quickly push the top card off the deck and turn the whole deck over on top of this card.
5. Bring the deck out in front again, showing that nothing has changed. Ribbon-spread the cards across a table to show that there is one card reversed – the spectator’s card!
