Effect: The spectator selects a card and you shuffle the card back into the deck. You place the deck back in the case. Now, you ask the spectator to name his card. As you are holding the box of cards, the flap opens of its own volition and the spectator’s selected card slowly and inexplicably rises from the card box.

Secret: For this trick, some preparation is necessary. Remove a deck of cards from the box. Using an X-ACTO or utility knife, cut a rectangular section from the middle of the flap side of the box, approximately 2 inches long and half an inch wide. Place the box aside so that the cutout section is unseen throughout the trick.

1. Fan or spread the cards out for the spectator to select a card. Ask him to remember his card.

2. Lift off the top half of the deck and have the selected card placed on top of the bottom half. Replace the top half of the deck, holding a “Pinkie Break” between the two halves.

3. Cut approximately a quarter of the deck onto the table. Now cut all the cards above the break on top of those on the table. Finally place the remaining cards on top. These cuts should be done quickly. The selected card has now been secretly controlled to the top of the deck.

4. Place the cards in the card box so that the faces are pointing outwards on the non-flap side of the box. Keep the flap side of the box hidden and loosely close the top flap of the box.

5. Hold the box on the side between your fingertips and thumb, the non-flap side facing your audience. With your index finger, slowly push up the top card of the deck through the cutout section of the box. The flap will mysteriously open and the spectator’s selected card will rise slowly out of the box!
