Effect: A coin appears “out of thin air.” The coin is displayed to all and then – vanishes. The coin re-appears behind a spectator’s ear. The magician offers to hand over the coin for inspection but it vanishes again. This is essentially a one-on-one routine and is a basic version of “Coin Behind Your Ear.’

Secret: A coin is held in right hand finger palm position. (Lefties do the opposite)

1. Point with your index finger, (the coin hidden in your right hand) toward a spectator’s ear and say something clever like, “What’s that behind your ear?”

2. Reach behind his ear and with an upward sweeping motion push the coin up to your fingertips, magically producing a coin! Display the coin to the audience.

3. Pretend to place the coin in your left hand closing it into a fist, but secretly retain the coin in finger palm, using a toss vanish. Ask the spectator if he would like to examine the coin.

4. Move your left hand toward the spectator as if to hand him the coin for inspection. You open it to show it empty – the coin has vanished! Under this misdirection, your right hand (with the coin still in finger palm) should move toward his ear to produce the coin once again.

5. Your right hand prepares to execute a toss vanish into your left hand again, but this time actually toss the coin in your left hand fist.

6. Display the coin in your left hand and using a pinch vanish, pretend to take the coin with your right hand but secretly retain it in your left hand. Pointing to his right ear once again, say, “Wow, I think it’s back!”

7. As you reach to his ear with your right hand for misdirection, turn your body slightly toward your left, and secretly dump the coin into your front or back left pocket. Bring both hands together and show them empty, saying, “Wow, I didn’t even get a chance to spend it.”
